About Me

Hi, I'm Stuart and I am a BABCP accredited cognitive and behavioural psychotherapist (CBT), registered mental health nurse, educator and content creator.  I work part time for the NHS as a complex trauma therapist treating both adults and adolescents.  I spend the rest of my time seeing private patients, working on my PhD and making YouTube videos.

It can be really hard for people to access high quality mental health resources that can be trusted.  I decided to start my YouTube channel for exactly that reason - to make high quality mental health education accessible, at low cost, to the most people I possibly can.  This allows people who cannot access therapy, for what ever reason, make a start on their recovery journey.  If just one of my videos helps one person then it has been worth it.

I have 2 YouTube Channels.  The first is a Reaction channel where I talk about mental health around current popular media such as music videos and interviews.  I find this is an accessible way to approach such issues without getting into full blown mental health videos. That YouTube Channel can be found by clicking here.

The second channel is dedicated to purely therapy videos.  Here there will be series on managing emotions, dealing with trauma, improving confidence and self-esteem etc.  You can find that channel here.

My specialist area is working with people who have experienced trauma.  For the last 10 years I have worked predominantly in trauma services, in both primary and secondary care settings.  My PhD is exploring how services in general can become more trauma-informed to help support people who have experienced trauma throughout their lives.

Despite my specialism being trauma, I also work with a wide range of problems.  I have extensive experience in working with people experiencing generalised anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, OCD, difficulties with self-esteem, low mood and depression.

I draw upon a range of approaches that I have been trained in and studied.  These approaches include:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
